The victims have been identified as Roberto Olmeda, Diego Lara, Uriel Galvan, Jaime Martinez, and Dante Cedillo, as per a report by El Pais. El Universal’s coverage suggests that the most plausible scenario involves the young men reaching out to a call center with the aim of securing employment. Unbeknownst to them, this call center was frequently under the control of the CJNG, used to forcibly recruit individuals.

Interestingly, the video released bears the mark “Pure MZ,” attributed to Mayo Zambada, the leader of the Sinaloa cartel. On a subsequent day, Mexican authorities managed to locate the site where the photo and video were allegedly captured. In this grim discovery, four charred and decapitated bodies were found. While their identities remained unconfirmed, the bodies were situated within a structure close to the vicinity where the victims were initially abducted.

A fifth body was also discovered in a burned-out vehicle nearby. Jalisco prosecutors shared photos indicating the ranch where these events unfolded, revealing isolated brick and concrete buildings surrounded by open terrain. Bloodstains, scattered shoes, and investigative activity were also captured in these images, Mexican Drug Cartel reinforcing the suspicion that the victims were held captive at this site.

During a news briefing, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador expressed his deep regret for the incident and indicated that federal prosecutors were taking over the case due to the involvement of Mexican Drug Cartel. The victims had initially gone missing while en route to a festival in Lagos de Moreno, an area marred by cartel-related violence. Subsequently, they were shown in the video, bound and kneeling amidst cartel members, with one of the captors brutally ending the life of his friend.
