(United Latest News)- An incident occurred in Peru when a bus swerved off the road, leading to the tragic loss of at least 13 lives and causing critical injuries to five individuals. The incident occurred in the mountainous Andes region, with the injured passengers subsequently being transported to a hospital located in Pisco city.
The devastating crash took place during the morning hours when the bus, carrying approximately 50 passengers, embarked on its journey from the Andean town of Vilcashuaman en route to the capital city of Lima. Near Huancavelica, a town situated in the southeastern part of the country, the bus flipped over and plunged 200 meters (656 feet) down an incline.
According to an officer from the Huaytara district police station in Huancavelica, who spoke to AFP, “We regret to inform that thirteen individuals lost their lives, and five sustained severe injuries following a bus accident that led to the vehicle going off a cliff along the Los Libertadores highway.”
The injured victims were swiftly transported to a hospital located in Pisco for medical attention. As rescue efforts ensued, Alvino Rojas, the health chief of Huaytara, shared, “The situation is chaotic, with bodies scattered. Firefighters and police are actively engaged in the rescue operation.” These grim circumstances highlight the severity of the accident.
