Sateliot Announces Expansion of 5G IoT Satellite Constellation

Sateliot, a prominent player in the space-based Internet of Things (IoT) sector, has unveiled plans to expand its 5G IoT satellite constellation with the launch of four additional satellites this summer. These new satellites will join Sateliot’s Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) constellation, enhancing its capacity to provide direct roaming extension to terrestrial cellular networks. The expansion signals the beginning of Sateliot’s commercial phase and marks a significant step towards its objective of connecting nearly 7 million IoT devices worldwide.

Through a partnership with SpaceX, Sateliot aims to deploy these four satellites, bringing the total number of operational satellites to six. This expansion is strategically important as Sateliot moves forward with processing euro 187 million in confirmed orders from over 350 clients across 50 countries. The company is poised to leverage these early revenues towards achieving a target of euro 500 million by 2027, with further aspirations to reach a billion in revenue by 2030.

Sate liot’s recent fundraising efforts have been successful, securing euro 13.5 million from major backers such as Banco Santander and the public company Avancsa. These funds will be allocated towards advancing satellite technology, facilitating upcoming satellite launches, and strengthening the company’s team in preparation for a complete constellation deployment by 2027/2028, ensuring real-time global coverage.

The newly designed satellites, configured as cubesats measuring 20 x 10 x 35 centimeters and weighing 10 kilograms, will orbit the Earth at altitudes between 500 and 600 kilometers. With a projected operational lifespan of five years, these satellites will provide comprehensive planetary coverage. Sateliot’s innovative technology, endorsed by both the European Space Agency (ESA) and the 3GPP, ensures standardized, scalable, and easily updatable services tailored to a diverse range of IoT applications spanning agriculture to real-time global services.

Sate liot’s strategic initiatives have positioned it as a significant player in the IoT and the Spanish New Space sector, underscoring Spain’s emerging role in space innovation. Jaume Sanpera, CEO and co-founder of Sateliot, expressed excitement about the company’s trajectory, emphasizing their readiness to embrace new technological and commercial dimensions. Sateliot aims to lead the way as the first IoT constellation operating worldwide under the 5G standard, while also positioning Spain at the forefront of the New Space revolution
