Detroit Lions’ Cameron Sutton Sought in Battery Case; Police Unable to Locate

Authorities in Florida have been actively searching for Detroit Lions cornerback Cameron Sutton for approximately two weeks following the issuance of an arrest warrant related to his alleged involvement in a domestic violence incident.

Cameron Sutton faces a charge of domestic battery by strangulation, categorized as a third-degree felony carrying a potential sentence of up to five years in prison.

According to Phil Martello, a spokesperson for the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, efforts to locate Sutton have been ongoing since March 7, the day the arrest warrant was issued. The incident occurred in Lutz, Florida, where Sutton purportedly assaulted a woman before fleeing the scene. Evidence of injuries on the woman’s body has been documented by authorities.

Despite having a residence in neighboring Pinellas County, Cameron Sutton has not been found there, nor has he responded to repeated attempts by detectives to reach him.

In response to inquiries regarding Cameron Sutton legal situation, the Lions issued a statement affirming their awareness of the matter and expressing their intent to monitor developments closely without providing further comment.

The sheriff’s office has turned to social media, requesting assistance from the public in locating Sutton.

Cameron Sutton , aged 29, joined the Lions as an unrestricted free agent last summer following six seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers. During the 2023 NFL season, he started all 17 games for the Lions, tallying 60 total tackles, six passes defended, and an interception. Sutton was originally selected by the Steelers in the third round of the 2017 NFL draft.
