This Sunday we’re celebrating the National Cinema Day, where movie lovers can enjoy films at, over 3,000 participating theaters across the country for only $4 per ticket. This pricing hasn’t been seen since 1989 according to data from the National Association of Theatre Owners. In contrast years average ticket price was $10.53.
Movie theaters have been working hard to recover from the challenges brought on by the pandemic. Successful movies like “Barbie” have helped improve sales numbers. Led AMC to experience its quarterly attendance since 2019. However, despite these trends major theater chain AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc. Still faces debt. Additionally ongoing strikes involving Hollywood actors and writers have caused disruptions in film production. National Cinema Day has the potential to give a needed boost to the theater industry.
During the Cinema Day event that offered $3 tickets, an astounding 8 million people. Generated $23.8 million, in box office revenue—a remarkable 103% increase compared to the previous day.
The Cinema Foundation, a profit organization, at the forefront of this initiative claims that Cinema Day has a long lasting impact on movie theater attendance. According to a report released by the foundation 60% of surveyed attendees expressed an increased frequency in their moviegoing habits after participating in National Cinema Day.
This years selection of films is sure to captivate audiences with titles, like “Blue Beetle ” “Barbie,” “Oppenheimer,” “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles; Mutant Mayhem ” and “Strays.” Make sure you don’t miss out on all the excitement!
