British Olympian Charlotte Dujardin Withdraws from Paris Games Amid Investigation

Charlotte Dujardin, one of Great Britain’s most decorated female Olympians, has withdrawn from the Paris Games following the emergence of a controversial video. The six-time Olympic dressage medalist announced her decision on Instagram, citing an ongoing investigation by the International Federation for Equestrian Sports (FEI).

Video Sparks Investigation

In her statement, Charlotte Dujardin explained, “A video has emerged from four years ago which shows me making an error of judgment during a coaching session. What happened was completely out of character and does not reflect how I train my horses or coach my pupils, however there is no excuse. I am deeply ashamed and should have set a better example in that moment.” The video, reportedly showing Dujardin engaging in conduct contrary to horse welfare principles, prompted the FEI to suspend her from competition.

Details of the Investigation

The FEI confirmed the investigation and stated that they received the video two days prior from a lawyer representing an undisclosed complainant. The footage, allegedly taken several years ago during a private training session, has put Dujardin’s conduct under scrutiny. “According to the information received, the footage was allegedly taken several years ago during a training session conducted by Ms. Dujardin at a private stable,” the regulatory body added.
